Welcome to Designer Silk
As a designer/maker I am passionate about individually designed and crafted things, whether they are beautiful works of art or functional items such as clothing, or perhaps both. I love experimenting with new ideas and techniques and pushing the boundaries of traditional silk painting. Inspiration can take on many wonderful and diverse forms, I find, for whilst living in the country most of my creativity has its origins in natural forms or patterns, however, it is also present in the industrial skylines of nearby Stoke-on-Trent, home to the Pottery Industry, or a company logo which can be painted on a tie or scarf! An increasing part of my work is by commission, interpreting clients own ideas to produce bespoke designs or painting one of my existing designs in colours to order but I still love to let my creativity wander to come up with new designs and colours.
After 19 years as a Silk Painter I
still feel inspired to produce new designs each year and love to hear my
customers’ ideas for new designs too. Part of my work involves after
dinner speaking, talks and workshops for all different types of organisations
such as business clubs, WI and craft clubs and this year I have been running
workshops for Derbyshire County Council at libraries throughout the county. Workshops are increasingly popular and are
usually great fun and a wonderful opportunity to discover a new talent in silk
painting which works so well with other art and craft media including
embroidery, beadwork and interior design.

coincide with Marabu’s fabulous new range of top quality silk paints and
outliners with beautiful new shades complementing old favourites. Colour charts and price lists available by

Another development is the launch of a
new range of silver jewellery designed by Katherine which will be available at
a select number of local shows. This was
launched in August in Orvis at Loynton Fisheries near Newport, Shropshire where
Designer Silk and Silver was invited to exhibit and sell her work alongside
Orvis merchandise. It was a very happy
beginning to what is turning out to be a growing aspect of Katherine’s work.
My work is only available from my
studio in the Staffordshire Moorlands by prior arrangement, a select number of
